File Association Dialog

Because the new file associations GUI in 2.1.8 has different code paths depending on the version of Windows, and depends on several things being set up in the registry to work, not everyone translating will be able to see it in action.

Therefore I have taken screenshots of all dialogue boxes it can present.

Windows 5.x (2000, XP, 2003)

The user selects Associations from the Tools menu. All file types Aegisub can be registered to are already registered to Aegisub.

This message appears.

The user starts Aegisub. Checking file type associations on start up is enabled in Options. (This is the default.) At least one file type Aegisub supports is not associated to Aegisub.

The file type names and type descriptions in the list are read from strings in the registry and are not translateable. They are set up by the installer. They may be made translateable at a later point by a different mechanism.

Windows 6.x (Vista, 7, 2008)

The user starts Aegisub.

Checking file type associations on start up is enabled in Options. (This is the default.) At least one file type Aegisub supports is not associated to Aegisub. This dialogue appears.

On Windows 6.x, if the user selects Associations from the Tools menu, the system Default Programs control panel is launched. This UI is part of Windows and not translateable. It takes file type names and descriptions from data written to the registry during installation. Those may be made translateable at a later point by a different mechanism.

Texts used in the Windows Shell

For a number of texts, also mainly related to file associations, Windows requires the strings to be present as PE resources in the program's EXE file. The following block defines the English strings for the file associations.

The translated strings will be used on Windows Vista and later, and the language used depends on the language of Windows itself. (If the user has an Ultimate or Enterprise edition of Windows it depends on the MUI language selected.)
